The Austrian Financial Market Authority (FMA) has officially penalized crypto exchange Bitpanda, establishing a significant legal precedent as the first publicly disclosed sanction under the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulation.

Regulators determined that the platform failed to adhere to strict MiCA requirements regarding the publication of mandatory crypto-asset white papers. Additionally, the FMA cited deficiencies in Bitpanda's marketing communications, noting that these materials did not meet the transparent standards mandated by the new EU framework.

While Bitpanda has accepted the administrative ruling, the move serves as a stark warning to other digital asset service providers operating within the eurozone. The integration of MiCA rules is intended to harmonize consumer protection and market integrity across the bloc.

Industry experts suggest this enforcement signals a shift toward more aggressive oversight by national regulators as the full scope of MiCA becomes enforceable. Crypto firms are now under heightened pressure to audit their promotional content and technical disclosures to avoid similar disciplinary actions.
