Security firm CertiK has released alarming data regarding the physical safety of cryptocurrency investors throughout the first half of 2026. The report highlights a sharp escalation in violent encounters designed to extract private keys or wallet access, commonly referred to in the industry as 'wrench attacks.'
Statistics reveal that home invasions have become the most prevalent tactic for these criminals. Reported incidents skyrocketed to 20 during the first six months of the year, representing a staggering increase compared to the single incident recorded during the same period in 2025.
The data also points to significant geographical concentration regarding these security threats. Out of 52 total verified physical attacks against crypto holders, 33 occurred specifically within France, marking the nation as a primary hotspot for this alarming trend.
These findings serve as a stark reminder for crypto enthusiasts to prioritize operational security beyond just digital firewalls. The transition from cyber-attacks to physical confrontations underscores the critical need for increased privacy and physical safety measures for those managing significant digital wealth.
