IIT Madras is poised for a significant financial gain as Indo-MIM prepares for its initial public offering. The institute stands to net approximately Rs 112 crore, thanks to a strategic gift of equity shares from alumnus and Indo-MIM founder, Krishna Chivukula.
The institution plans to execute an Offer for Sale (OFS), divesting half of the gifted stake during the IPO process. This move allows the university to realize immediate liquidity while maintaining a long-term position in the firm.
By retaining the remaining half of the shares, IIT Madras aims to capitalize on the company's future market performance. This endowment strategy showcases how alumni contributions can transform into institutional capital, bolstering research and infrastructure efforts.
Market analysts view this development as a benchmark for how elite academic institutions can leverage private sector success to secure endowment growth through equity holdings.
