The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) is raising the bar for market infrastructure institutions (MIIs) by introducing a new IT Resilience Index. This initiative aims to fortify the digital backbone of the nation’s financial markets against growing cyber threats and operational vulnerabilities.

The framework utilizes a 100-point scoring system to evaluate MIIs across nine critical parameters. By conducting assessments twice a year, the regulator seeks to maintain rigorous standards for system integrity and overall technological stability.

Under the new mandate, institutions are required to integrate advanced early-warning systems and robust real-time monitoring capabilities. These technological safeguards must be fully implemented and operational by February 2027.

Ultimately, this policy shift emphasizes the importance of continuous operational availability in a digital-first economy, ensuring that stock exchanges and clearing corporations can maintain resilience during periods of extreme market volatility.
