SEBI has officially greenlit a significant series of reforms designed to streamline capital markets and enhance investor protection. The board’s latest decisions mark a shift toward greater flexibility for corporations and asset managers alike.
Among the most anticipated updates is the reintroduction of the open market buyback route. This mechanism allows companies to repurchase shares directly from the stock exchange, providing a more efficient way to manage capital compared to the previous tender offer process.
The regulator also introduced measures to improve liquidity management for mutual funds. By permitting intraday borrowing, fund houses can now better navigate liquidity mismatches, ultimately providing a smoother experience for retail investors.
Additionally, the board prioritized simplifying administrative hurdles. Changes include faster onboarding for Alternative Investment Funds (AIFs) and a simplified process for transferring securities to legal heirs, reducing the bureaucratic burden on families during difficult times.
