The Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) has announced a significant update to its certification requirements. Starting September 21, the existing Specialized Investment Fund (SIF) examination will be discontinued to pave the way for a more targeted assessment framework.

The regulator is replacing the current system with the NISM-Series-V-D: Mutual Fund - Specialized Investment Fund Distributors Certification. This transition marks a shift in how market participants are tested, ensuring professionals remain aligned with evolving industry standards.

A notable change in the new curriculum is the complete removal of questions pertaining to currency derivatives. By stripping away these modules, Sebi aims to simplify the certification path and place a sharper, more dedicated focus on the complexities of mutual fund distribution.

Aspiring distributors and market professionals are encouraged to align their preparations with the new syllabus. The move reflects Sebi’s broader strategy to enhance the quality of advisory services by narrowing the scope of specialized exams to better reflect day-to-day fund operations.
